Hourglass is one of the beauty industry’s most coveted brands. Known for their handmade powders and skincare-based formulas, the brand is rooted in both luxury and thoughtfulness. From the outside looking in, Hourglass seem to have a strong focus on providing products that not only look beautiful, but perform beautifully and are good for the complexion too. Skincare and beauty unite, and with that a stunning range of products that really allow your makeup routine to be therapeutic, both mentally and for your skin. So with all that said, here are some of my favourite products from the brand…
AMBIENT SOFT GLOW FOUNDATION
This is one of my favourite foundations of all time. With a weightless feel, this medium to full coverage foundation is packed with skincare ingredients, such as White Tea Extract and Vitamin E, which are both known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and protective properties. The formula applies beautifully to the skin, giving a radiant and even finish. It’s long-wearing, becoming more dewy as the day goes on. If you have oily skin, you may choose to apply an oil-control primer underneath, or use powder – either blotting or setting – if required. I love how healthy my skin looks throughout the day, and how I can have a medium to full coverage foundation without it looking or feeling heavy on the skin. My shade is 2, which has a warm undertone.
VANISH AIRBRUSH CONCEALER
A beautiful full-coverage concealer that leaves the skin looking smooth and radiant with a weightless feel. While all concealers crease, the Vanish Airbrush formula keeps it to a minimum, which helps the skin look fresh all day long, alongside blurring and brightening properties. I love to use a fine layer of this concealer all over my face on top of my foundation. This creates a stunning, airbrushed look that gives my skin complete coverage without it ever looking thick or drying. The Vanish Airbrush formula is hydrating and offers beautiful and natural luminosity. It’s a staple in my makeup collection.
VEIL TRANSLUCENT SETTING POWDER
The Veil Translucent Setting Powder looks amazing on the skin. With an incredibly lightweight feel and silky texture, it allows your complexion to look smooth and radiant both immediately upon application and all throughout the day and night. With the tiniest amount of micro-shimmer, this setting powder gives your skin an extra boost of lit-from-within glow that never accentuates texture. It truly allows your skin to look like skin, always looking natural and never looking powdery, while locking your foundation and concealer in place for hours on end. It’s my favourite setting powder of all time.
AMBIENT LIGHTING BLUSH
When it comes to blush and bronzer, smooth and easy to blend formulas are an absolute must. I also want a product that is buildable in pigmentation, so it’s easy to apply a little or a lot with ease. In terms of blush, the Ambient Lighting Blush is one of my favourite formulas ever. With a luxuriously silky texture, the powder applies seamlessly onto the skin, and diffuses beautifully across the complexion. Presented as a marble-effect powder, the pigment of the blush is woven within a complementary tone of the iconic Ambient Lighting Powder, the finishing powder that truly put Hourglass on the beauty map. This allows this blush formula to blur the skin, never accentuating texture, and allowing the complexion to be radiant and youthful despite using a powder formula. My favourite shade is Diffused Heat, a stunning pink coral.
AMBIENT STROBE LIGHTING POWDER
If you’re after a natural-looking highlighter that allows your skin to look lit-from-within without that metallic finish, then look no further. The Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders are gentle yet effective, giving your skin that luminous glow that looks as though your skin naturally does that. It’s a true ‘no-makeup makeup’ must-have product. My favourite shades are Incandescent Strobe Light, a cool-toned icy mauve, and Iridescent Strobe Light, a more blush toned highlighter that looks beautiful as a blush topper to add radiance back to the skin if you’re using a true matte blush formula. Personally, I find that a fluffy highlighting brush is a must for applying the Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders, such as the Ambient Lighting Edit Brush.
SCATTERED LIGHT GLITTER EYESHADOW
I adore shimmery and glittery eyeshadow. The Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow formula glistens and sparkles across the eyes like fairy dust and look so incredibly pretty. They can either be worn as a sheer and gentle wash of sparkle, or as intensely pigmented shimmery and glittery goodness. Coming in nine gorgeous shades, there is an option for everybody. My favourite shades are Foil, a warm gold, Smoke, a cool taupe with silver and pink reflects, and Reflect, a natural champagne.
UNLOCKED INSTANT EXTENSIONS MASCARA
Hourglass are known for enhancing your natural beauty. Their mascaras focus on accentuating your lashes, and making them look as long, defined, separated and volumised as possible without looking ‘fake’. For me, my favourite mascara from Hourglass is the Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara, as I find it’s more volumising and lengthening than the Caution formula, and I use it on my lighter makeup days. The formula allows my lashes to look smooth and defined, and it holds the curl well, never flaking or crumbling.
UNLOCKED SATIN CRÈME LIPSTICK
The Unlocked Satin Crème Lipsticks are one of the best lipsticks on the market. With a soft formula, it doesn’t accentuate texture or settle into the fine lines of the lips. Coming in an array of shades, there’s an option for everybody. But, for me, what’s so exciting about this shade range is the fact that there are two classic nude shades that will suit so many skin tones. The first is Tide, a rosy beige that is a perfect spring and summer shade. It’s incredibly pretty and youthful, and looks amazing with some industry-classic lip liners, such as Pillow Talk (Charlotte Tilbury) and Whirl (MAC Cosmetics). The second is Alpine, which is a classic warm beige. This light-toned nude looks amazing even on fair skin tones, and is the perfect neutral nude colour for all the seasons and for every occasion.
